Kilpatrick Adds Leading Patent Litigator with FullSpectrum IP Practice

CHICAGO (April 28) – Kilpatrick announced today that Tron Fu has joined as a partner on the Firm’s internationally recognized Patent Litigation Team in the growing Chicago office. Mr. Fu, who previously practiced at Dickson Wright, is another high-profile addition to the Intellectual Property Department in Chicago. In February, Kilpatrick added Thomas Holt, Partner, and Jeremy Buxbaum, Counsel, to the Trademark, Copyright, & Advertising Team.

“Tron’s background positions him well in an increasingly active area of law that sits at the intersection of software engineering and IP enforcement,” said Matias Ferrario, Kilpatrick Patent Litigation Team Co-Chair. “His expertise directly aligns with Kilpatrick’s strategic plan to achieve growth by integrating high-quality litigators that complement our existing strengths. The addition also expands the Chicago office’s services in a key geographic market.”

Mr. Fu is an experienced patent litigator whose practice is built around technically sophisticated patent disputes. He has litigated patent infringement actions across multiple sectors and has obtained numerous high-value verdicts and favorable settlements for his clients. While patent litigation is at the core of his work, Mr. Fu’s practice is not one-dimensional. His copyright practice extends to the infringement of proprietary source code and he manages an active portfolio of trademark and patent prosecution for a broad set of clients, including established companies and startups, through a range of industries and technologies, including e-commerce, software and business methods, mechanical devices, medical devices, and consumer products. As a former entrepreneur who founded an Internet service company and a software company early in his career, Mr. Fu uses this first-hand understanding of successfully running a business to develop and execute successful intellectual property protection and litigation strategies for clients.

“The depth and scale of Kilpatrick’s litigation and prosecution practices provide immense opportunity to meet the ever-evolving legal and business needs of clients,” said Mr. Fu. “Also, Kilpatrick’s tech-focused strategy positions the Firm to assist clients in the IP space and beyond. I look forward to meeting and collaborating with my new colleagues across the Firm to learn more about their practices and expertise.”

Mr. Fu graduated from the University of Illinois College of Law, holds an MBA from the Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago, and has a degree in computer science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is fluent in Chinese and has extensive experience with disputes involving Chinese companies.

Mr. Fu’s success has led to recognition by leading legal rankings such as “Super Lawyer” and “Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch” for Intellectual Property Law by The Best Lawyers in America®. He is also a leader in the Chicago legal community and active in numerous organizations. Mr. Fu also gives back through his pro bono representation of various artists, film-makers, and publishers in IP matters through the Lawyers for Creative Arts.
